World Water Day 2022
March 22, 2022
Hydroflux supports World Water Day
World Water Day is observed on March 22nd each year to celebrate water and raise awareness of the 2 billion people currently living without access to safe water. A core focus of World Water Day is to inspire action towards Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6: water and sanitation for all by 2030.
This year Hydroflux is celebrating world water day and raising awareness of the global water crisis by outlining some of the key ways we are taking action towards the Sustainable Development Goals.
Love Mercy Foundation – Well Worth it program
Through Love Mercy’s Well Worth It program, Hydroflux is proud to help deliver many wells this year to help relieve poverty through easy and safe access to clean water.
Each project includes a hand pump and a borehole that will reach a depth of at least 60m. With over 200 million hours lost each day in Africa through walking long distances to collect often unclean water, the provision of safe water from deep bore village wells is critical to achieving independence and increased health and wellbeing for the inhabitants.
Partnering with the Love Mercy Foundation in their vision to see communities in Northern Uganda thriving independently, by increasing access to health care, clean water, food security and income generation.
Carbon Neutral
Hydroflux takes its climate responsibility seriously and has achieved Climate Active Certification as a Carbon Neutral Organisation – an Australian first for a Water-Tech organisation.
Climate Active certification aligns our values, business objectives and further direction by connecting our activities in the sustainable water and energy arenas with our values of reducing carbon emissions and our mission of protecting our most valuable resources.
Waste to Energy
Hydroflux Epco is a significant driver of ANZ’s future resilience in biosolids handling and disposal with exclusive access to some of Europe’s leading biosolids technology. We are currently involved in projects in Australasia with Sludge2Energy that will significnalty reduce the volume of biosolids produced at wastewater treatment plant whilst generating green energy.
Sludge2Energy is a joint venture between our partner HUBER SE and WTE, are is already delivering several renewable energy facilities in Germany, Eastern Europe and the Middle East.
One particular example is The Halle Lochau facility located in Saxony in Germany, which recently commenced its commissioning phase. The Lothe facility will process 33,000 tons per annum of biosolids, producing an energy output of 3.5MW, powering the facility with green energy and reducing the biosolids volume by over 90%.
The final product is a phosphate rich ash. Having removed contaminants such as PFAS, heavy metals and microplastics, the ash will be reused for agricultural purposes in the region.
Advanced Water Recycling
In the early 2000’s, several of the Hydroflux senior management team were instrumental in the design and implementation of the first Advanced Water Treatment Plants in Australia that converted industrial wastewater into potable water for direct use in a food processing plant. Despite being a first, that plant and many others are still operating and functioning in the manner intended and annually saving many gigalitres of valuabe water.
Hydroflux continues to be at the forefront of Advanced Water Treatment and recycling technology and are investing in reasearch into the treatment and recovery of salts so that in the future, and in particular, rural facilities and their communities will reap the benefits of Advanced Water Treatment.
